Department of Business and Professional Regulation in other cities:
I filed two applications with DBPR two months ago, and they are still not processed. I have contacted them multiple times by email and phone; the only response I get is, “we do not have application processing deadlines.” The approach DBPR has taken is unacceptable. They are messing with people’s livelihoods by holding up the application process.
After months and much provided documentation, DBPR “determined that the facts and circumstances did not warrant commencement of formal administrative action” against an individual representing himself as a licensed General Contractor and stealing $40,000 from us. The court determined he had committed “civil theft and fraud” but the DBPR sees no reason to take administrative action. What a waste of our taxpayer dollars!
Horrible customer service. I spoke with a woman named Stella. If RUDE was a person itd be her. She cut me off while talking, she messed up my name. She acted like she didnt care. They are holding people up from getting their license and wont even give an estimate. Stella was far from stellar for sure. Her people skills/soft skills SUCK! For a business who wants us to know these things they should start from within their company first. Waiting on our license for a month now. All she could say is there was a system breakdown or crash and they will be reviewed by the order it was received 🤷🏿♀️ no further explanation except yours hasnt even been looked at yet. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Sent an email requesting procedure for licensing that isn’t addressed online and never received a response. Was not able to reach anyone via phone either. So, as a last resort I called a Minnesota board and talked with a member that assisted me with a work around (due to the unmanned boards in FL). What’s the reason I pay a license fee to any Florida board if the boards aren’t manned?
Worst customer service have to wait 2 hours and when finally the operator respond she said I need to hurry giving her the information because she need it to hung up ! Can you all believe this . Also she was very rude and when I try to do something on their online portal it keep saying they are experiencing technical difficulties
Posting this seems as a waste of time considering all the other negative reviews never get responded too. I am just so frustrated with DBPR. I’ve been calling and emailing for 4 days and have yet to get a hold of one single live person to answer a simple question. There recordings say they will respond to emailed in 2 business days while I have yet to receive a response 4 days later. So disheartening to be paying for a service and not being provided ANY service.
Why are they so scared to pick up the phone? They definitely need a new management to take over, spent 58 minutes waiting to speak to someone. I just hanged up, I’ll be going in person tomorrow morning. They might as well have robots working there, they’ll be more useful than the current staff.
My application has taken over 6 months to get approved. I wait an hour on hold to get ahold of anyone. They Lost my money order so I have to pay twice. And apparently my fingerprints are illegible so I have to re submit them. Which will probably take another so many months to get approved. They need a serious rehire or new management style.
Looks like no one works in this department anymore, if theres actually someone doesnt know how to answer the phone, i want to print my license and i have requested it more then 3 times but i never get the email all i get is a summary of my payment, i guess thats what i have to hang at my salon from now on, i filed a complaint and it said looks like you were able to submit the request to print the license out, YES!!! BUT WHERE IS THE EMAIL?
Trying to get someone on the phone is like pulling teeth and then actually trying to get useful information on application processing or how long it could take or what order your in to be processed is another story. What a waste of tax payer money. Trying to start a business to put food on the table and just waiting…. And waiting…. And waiting…. Unprofessional and unacceptable.
The deadlines do not matter for them. Do not rely on the information they give you. Call often as there might be an issue that you are not being notified about. Call twice because the information will change from person to person. This has been my experience with the department. My application was supposed to take up too 30 days, now over two months later I am being told to wait another 5 business days. This department is an embarrassment and only hurts people who are trying to work. That state government of Florida should be ashamed that they leave such an incompetent system in place. Good luck to all who have to deal with this department.
I have been licensed in several states and DBPR is the absolute worst by far to deal with. No one can ever give you any answers and about anything. I wish there was a way to file a complaint against them!! You are not allowed to visit this place to get answers from a live person. There is always and excuse to be made. I am going to write the Governor about this department.
I hate to see all these negative post because Ive had a good experience. Perfect, no but I just had to wait my turn on the phone, for my license and to talk to an actual person. The mistakes tht were made was my fault and they contacted me within 2 days to let me know what I needed.
This is a mess, I have been trying to update my license for 5 months in the department of cosmetology, no one has call back or email back, all requirements where provided and still haven’t gotten anything or anywhere. Calling is awful and emails are never answered with valuable information, bad use of taxpayers money.
You cant get a hold of anybody, what joke. Government mis-management at its worst. You want to comply with the law but theres body who comes to the phone. I heard they had to paint bright yellow lines down the hallways of their offices, so the people arriving late dont bump into the people leaving early. Taxpayers should revolt.
This is the most unprofessional organization I have ever had to deal with. Their call centers are probably in the most run down poor neighborhoods so they can hire the cheapest labor possible. You cant get in touch with anyone that can actually help you. They take extremely long to process the simplest forms. Straight pathetic. Whoever oversees this licensing department for the state should be ashamed of themselves. I know everyone isnt smart enough to open and run their own business but wow they have the bottom of the barrel working here and processing everyones licensing. This is not the way to get people to want to open a business and contribute to the tax revenue of the state.
If it were possible to give zero stars, that would be a more accurate rating. We filed a complaint against a contractor that stole more than $150,000 from us and walked off the job. The DBPR did absolutely nothing to him. He still has his license. In fact not only does he still have his GC license, the DBPR also issued him an inspector license. There are about 20 other families that have been victimized by this man and the DBPR has done NOTHING to stop him. This organization is a joke and does nothing to protect consumers in the state of Florida against corrupt contractors.
I would give them a zero rating! Complete waste of money, time and effort!!! I can not sit for my Real Estate Exam because of there multiple errors and incompetence!!! SMH!!! What century are we living in today-DBPR needs a total makeover and upgrade!!! Please do better Florida!!!!
Called Tallahassee this morning regarding application for renewal of contractors license not arriving. Spoke to a very knowledgeable and pleasant person by the name of Joy. In less than a minute Joy was able to located the problem and issue my license. A few minutes later I received the e-mail containing my professional license. Thank you, Joy, for handling this problem so quickly and professionally.
I am currently working with the Dept. of Business and Professional Regulation and am extremely pleased with the help I am receiving to get out of a timeshare purchase I made in grave error in January. They are providing me with a vast and ongoing amount of advice, information, and active intervention in my grievance with the company. I will be grateful no matter the outcome of my complaint because I know theyre doing all they can. Please keep fighting for the consumer. We need agencies like you in this country!
Staff are terrible. In the process of opening up a new veterinary clinic and cant seem to get anyone to assist me with their forms. Leave messages..no response. Call back and forced to leave another message. No follow up call from DBPR. Going on 3 days now trying to get an answer to a simple question. This is where my tax dollars are going?
We called to check the liscense status of a contractor we were looking to hire. Dbpr said he is active and a good contracor, so we hired him. This contractor stole 23k of our money and is still currently robbing people. He is a convicted felon and drug addict but somehow still has a liscense. And the dbpr could careless about it. This agency should be ashamed of itself. It only protects the scum bag contracor.
They protect business! I was the victim of a hair salon that has a license to provide services but hires people without a work permit. Investor Lorenzo called me confirming that he went to the site and the hair salon employee did not have a license and lied to her about his name, Ms. Lorenzo informed me that steps would be taken and the only thing taken was that she gave the license Mr. Márcio an employee of the Ethel hairdresser and did not make any fines in the salon! waste time contacting or reporting any irregularities.the salon owner said I didnt pay for the service and I sent proof that I paid! even so they only accept the response from the establishment.
Took over 3 months to tell me that I needed to go to small claims for a FAKE contractor (post hurricane) who broke my $1000 chandelier, ceiling fans, ruined my ceiling beams, and hung WET drywall that rained on the night before AFTER I paid approximately $40k for a mold problem to save my house. Now I am going to have to pay more for someone else to fix this issue, with money I do not have.
This agency should be closed.. Everytime u file a complaint they are unable to help u resolve a matter when a business person has wrongfully stolen or done a shabby job . My father died Jan. A auctioneer walked on his farm appraising my farm equipment an his . Some of the equipment was 50/50 ownership. He refused to me at any time. I called sheriffs department at that time. He demanded answers from auctioneer . This agency said there is nothing they can do. I suppose we live in a country a person can steal ur property an nothing can be done about it . This agency is a waste of tax payers money .
This place sucks. Certify millions of professionals and they are not, they are thieves. My experience with them is terrible besides being impossible to talk to them and even when you manage to communicate they do not help you and they steal your money. They are the most bureaucratic people that exist. They also send a fax to your request and you never receive a reply or even a call, they eventually wipe their asses with your fax and your time and needs do not count, there is no flowered respect for anything.
Our HOA filed a complaint against a realtor/LCAM with this agency in Tallahassee. They were to complete the review in 100 days at most. It took them almost a year to complete it. I provided all the email correspondance with this LCAM and our attorney and some of the behavior between her, and her friend on the board and some homeowners who were involved bordered almost on criminal behavior. We Terminated this LCAM for sloppy and secretive accounting, late charges on our utilities back 3-4 years ongoing. Also for everything running late because she was doing her realtor work first and letting our stuff go. When she got our termination letter and SHE DECIDED she was fired(not us) she turned our documents over to a non homeowner and his wife(home owner) who went throught our paper files and destroyed most of the stuff. We had to threaten to sue to get our quickbooks files back. She exceeded the 20 day turnover of our stuff to almost 2 months. There were 50 pages of documentation sent to the The Dept of Business and Professional Regulation as back up.Almost 10 months later I get a very short letter saying that the case is closed and according to Statute the results are sealed..no action. So what Im thinking here is that this is a sweet deal for any licensee and they know it. No arbitration, no findings, no nothing. When I called the attorney to find out what happened he got VERY ANGRY because I questioned his decision. If you have an LCAM license or a real estate license you can REST ASSURED that this agency will endeavor to continue to protect your sloppy and borderline illegal activities...Im done with it..Thank you Very much. I was advised to do this by our new management company..which was a TOTAL waste of time.
Disappointed and disgusted with Board final order. I filed a complaint against a contractor and attached a certified letter where this same contractor acknowledged he did work WITHOUT a permit and exceeded the contracted price. After two years of waiting, the board did NOTHING against his licence even though this contractor robbed me, filed a lien on my property and threatened /insulted me!The DPBR représentatives are USELESS and obviously do not care about the welfare and wellbeing of their tax payers.DO NOT EXPECT JUSTICE TO BE DONE THROUGH THEM! Write reviews to complain, it will save you a lot of time and energy.
I sent in my application for a renewal of my license. According to them, they never got the license renewal application. The money order hasnt been cashed. I sent my information off on December 8, 2016 and its now January 2017. I still dont know where my money order is. I would cancel the money order, but it costs $15 just to cancel the money order. It turns out, if I dont pay $15 to cancel the money order, Ill only get $10.00 back from my original money order. This puts me in distress. Ive called several times to talk to someone about this, but they only tell me that they can do nothing to help me. I keep thinking that maybe my stuff is sitting on someones desk or something, but I dont know. I sent out Christmas cards to Florida and everyone got those in three days. I dont live in Florida anymore. No idea why they are moving this freaking slow.
DBPR is ran by humans with no regard or care for others. They make you spend money on fees , bond , etc., make you wait months for an answer , then deny your application, based on how they “feel” about you. I know it firsthand. They are COLD. Getting answers to simple questions from customer service results in generic useless information. They are an organization built to create jobs...for themselves. All bureaucracy. They do little to nothing , besides push paper , it’s not about helping people with complaints or getting a license to do business so you can make a living, it’s just a place they go to to get themselves a paycheck .
Very disappointed in DBPR responsiveness of formal complaints against construction contractors. I filed a complaint with complete documentation in 2015. This included documents that were falsified by the contractor and a letter from the local building authority. After a month or so, I received a letter stating that there was sufficient evidence to elevate the status for investigation. Many, many months later (almost a year), the contractor was charged by County building authorities on about a dozen other complaints (none were related to my case). The contractors license was revoked upon recommendation by the county authority but the DBPR failed to process previous complaints and my complaint in a timely fashion, resulting in many homeowners falling into the same contractors trap. Its sad to know that the DBPR was reviewing complaints several months before I even hired this contractor and there were several homeowners who hired him well after I filed my complaint.
Rude people who don’t understand that business owners need their business for their livelihood. My business gives jobs to the economy. Why is it that this department can shut down an establishment with something so silly but once we correct it and have everything up to code, they can take extremely long to reopen a place. Doesn’t seem fair at all and needs a reform in the process. I’m not saying we don’t need this department but we need better processes and inspectors.
I was informed that this worthless government agency is in charge of our public safety when you eat at a restaurant. The local health department doesnt. So I called to report a feral cat problem at live oak Florida at McDonalds and Wendys restaurants you cant talk to anyone. You have to listen to a long long long script to find out you have to fill out a online request to get a complaint form mailed to you. This is utter BS. The health and safety of Florida residents and tourists is way more important than this asinine red tape. I propose we fold this Dept all together or at least take away their powers over restaurant and hotel inspection.please hit the like button if you agree
Was on the site to file a complaint but after reading so many one star reviews decided to not waste my time other then leaving this. Once upon a time I was in the position to walk through DBPR office in Broward County. It was a very large office with at least 25 small offices. As I walked around the long circular hallway, I noticed a large amount of the fat old men in each office (later learned they were retired NY cops) were playing video games on the desk computers.
Thank you for the City of Tampa and for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for their assistance in resolving an issue with a contractor. The case was handled professionally and in a timely manner with successful results. I am truly impressed. Thank you.
Every. Single. Time. I swear no matter how often I have renewed or transferred a license or qualified a brokerage, there’s an issue. And I’m talking since 2013, and not because of COVID. The details would bore you but let’s just say, tomorrow I am physically driving to Tallahassee to complete the process in person.
I have tried for 7 months to get my Florida LMT and esthetician license transfered to the state of Georgia without success. Online efforts between Floridas board and Georgias state board is TOTALLY NOT USER FRIENDLY! Beware if you move out of Florida you may not be able to take your massage therapy or esthetician career with you! Very sad with todays technology.
They have the rudest people providing customer service... Wish I could remember the name of the extremely rude woman I spoke to... She treated me like a child even though i was very friendly and gave her no reason to do so... I was so infuriated by her pompous attitude and lack of courtesy (as if she is the only person that has to work and you are taking up her time... Heres a tip DPBR...you guys suck.. and if you werent a part of the government there would be no reason for your existence... I am ASHAMED that my tax dollars are paying the salaries of such ungrateful people who serve no purpose but to fill up space in the budget of our nations infrastructure... so step it up maybe hire people that would be happy to have a job in order to do it well... Id like to note also that I have never left a review in any place, good or bad... but was compelled to see if something resembling feedback would actually reach the higher ups in this establishment...
Horrible service. Sent my information and they didn’t even looked into my application they just placed it wherever.. basically. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GUYS ARE DOING THE JOB CORRECTLY ****READ!!! THE PAPERS PEOPLE SENT TO YOU GUYS HAVE PERSONAL INFORMATION TO BE TAKEN AS A JOKE.

2022-04-27In my state (VA) they have dedicated people who approves your Home Inspection applications and you speak or email them directly and they themselves are inspectors. FL it’s a call center and people who have no clue. Trying to get licensed in this state and emailed them almost 2 weeks now no reply (website says 2-3 business days) tried calling and asking the questions I emailed I did get someone but both times was hung up on defeating the purpose of getting a call number when they deliberately hang up and don’t call back. Hopefully sometime in the next 30 years I’ll get a approval. And $230 fee is crazy in VA it’s $80.

2022-06-15ZERO STARS!!! What a disaster! I am trying to find out exactly what is required to get a cosmetology license here. Everything I read/hear has a different response. Good luck trying to get someone on the phone. Call after call, only to be hung up on an hour later. One time, I finally reached someone. Guess what? They were absolutely clueless and unbelievably rude. They had no idea where I could legitimately access a CED course I apparently need. Seriously wishing I had never moved to this sub-par state! Besides, you only require 1200 Cosmo hours? Whoa! It appears I am more than qualified with 2000. Just hand a license over already. I, and countless others, really need to get to work!!! But, whatever, just take your time.... Meanwhile, I will be figuring out how to get your department investigated. This is beyond ridiculous.

2022-06-18They tell you all the requirements for a waiver. Provide all the information asked. Wait for weeks just to be told that I dont meet the requirements. Im still trying to figure how that is possible!!! Any who the wait time to get someone on the phone is HORRIBLE!!! Sometimes the phone is hunged up after waiting nearly an hour!! The worse thing is not over yet. I tell them I will pay the remaining balance. I was told that I couldnt pay online nor over the phone. I have to go waste gas and extra money to do a money order for the remaining balance. What are these people doing over there? It would make sense to pay the balance with them directly but now I have to waste more time just to wait for a response so I can get the approval for my application so I can take my test. Greedy people milking every dollar out of you just to give you horrible service. The worse part is even with all these bad reviews nothing will be done because regardless, you will still have to pay no matter what!!!

2022-04-16If you can even get a person to pick up the phone you will be given the wrong information 9/10 of the time. I called multiple times over the course of two weeks and got different info from each perso I asked the SAME question. I pay for multiple licenses and go by the rules no matter how ridiculous they are. But if you hire people to answer questions incorrectly, keep in mind someone following their lead could fail an inspection or be charged a fine. The people you have answering phones need to know what they’re saying.

2022-06-09If I could give this agency zero stars I would. The website and application process is not user friendly at all. They are not responsive to emails and you will wait LITERAL hours to get someone on the phone. If you are finally able to get someone on the phone they are extremely rude and not helpful at all. I was basically told “oh well, figure it out”. As someone who hold licenses in multiple states, Florida is by far the most difficult state to deal with. I have much respect for DeSantis but he needs to do something about this agency.

2022-05-26I am doing my taxes in another state because I dont want this people working for free doing nothing and getting my tax paying money to them to do nothing not even a single penny they will get from me! Some people at least had their email answered i had been waiting 3 MONTHS to get one simple question answered and never got ahold to me, I have to ask my teachers and my school so they can answer the question how ridiculous!! No tax money for you DBPR!Just a tip: if you guys have like a very simple question from whatever license or business you do better ask your school, old classmates, co workers or your teachers they will most likely answer your question than this ridiculous agency!

2022-02-22Absolutely horrible. Governor Desantis should be ashamed of himself. I have tried to contact this agency for weeks trying to address questions that are not listed on the website. How is it possible, that the state of Florida can not provide customer service to the businesss that provide the funding with license fees? No one answers the phone and you will most likely get a recording that says they are too busy? Where does the tax paying dollar go and how are licensing fees allocated? I should be able to pick up the phone and get answers to my questions. How can the governor or whoever is in charge of the DBPR allow such unprofessional service?,This is in addition to the rude staff. If you email them it takes days for a response and they do not even address your question. Do they actually take time to read or just lack common sense? Will this ever be resolved? Please do not tell us its due to Covid. Its time for the Governor to do his job as an elected official and give the tax payers what they deserve. You should be ashamed of yourself for allowing this to happen.. Horrible horrible customer service.

2022-04-09I have had a very professional response from the DBPR. I properly filled out all the necessary paperwork and was contacted in due time. I was kept informed through the entire process and found everyone to be very helpful.2022

2022-04-27FL small business owner since 1994. Covid-19 seems to be the perfect excuse for a total disconnect by FL State run agencies. Even though Gov. Desantis wants FL to get back to work, staffing and support at DBPR (myfloridalicnse.com) is terrible, literally non-existent. We did not even receive a license renewal notice by mail, as we have every previous year; nor via their new paperless system. However, DBPR is happy to penalize business owners resulting from their (DBPRs) lack of communication and follow-through.
