I would highly recommended Dr. Mai and his staff for any hip related issues. My left hip replacement went fantastic and Dr. Mail is an honest guy that doesnt sugar coat anything! The staff at his office and the folks at Andrews were the best. Dont wait make your appt with him.
I am 2 weeks post hip replacement and couldn’t feel better about both the surgery itself and Dr. Mai. He was professional, knowledgeable and spoke on my level. He didn’t sugarcoat my situation but gave me the reality that I would end up with hip replacement now or later. This was my 4th physician to see in regard to my hip troubles and yet he gave me a diagnosis (finally) that made sense and a resolution, not a bandaid. I highly recommend Dr. Mai for hip issues. He and his staff were amazing and made sure I knew what to expect from the first steps so there were no surprises. I am so happy with my decision to see Dr. Mai and to have my hip replacement!
Efficient, friendly, professional office staff. Excellent doctor, PA, and nursing staff. Accurate diagnosis and timely surgical intervention. Dr. Matthew Mai is outstanding as a skilled surgeon and he also provides excellent communication concerning all aspects of surgery and recovery expectations. Thank you!
Post Double Total Hip Replacement. Its a miracle!Dr. Matthew Mai. I have no words. When I ponder for words, the first word that comes to my mind is its a miracle. I stand up or I get out of bed, and I’m waiting for the pain to come but it does not come. It’s gone away! I had my right THR on 01/19/22, and the left one done on 03/02/22. Today I feel like I have been given back my life. I wake up everyday thanking God for Dr. Mai. He is my hero. I was referred to Dr. Mai by Dr. Brett Smith who is also an amazing orthopedic. For about a year or more I got injections in my hips, which helped for a while. The THR was recommended by Dr. Mai but he never pushed me or coerced me to have surgery. He allowed me to make the decision to have my hips replaced when I was ready. Let me tell ya! It was the best decision that I’ve made in my life choosing and trusting Dr. Matthew Mai to literally replace both of my hips back to back. I am 58 years old but I feel 38 years old now that the arthritis pain is totally gone! I will choose Dr. Mai 1000 times.I thank God for Dr. Mai and his staff every day of my life for giving me back my pain free life. My recovery time for both surgeries have been totally remarkable. Again I say what Dr. Mai did for me by the grace of God was truly a miracle. I cannot express my gratitude enough.
Dr. Mai was great pre-surgery but after both of my hips were replaced he quit listening to what I was saying and blaming the horrible pain, that Im still dealing with 2 yrs later, was from my back not my hips. Yes I have back issues but my pain is in both hips and my thighs and is horrible! I average 2.5 hours asleep before I get woken up from moving in my sleep causing more pain. My quality of life has gone way down now and I dont see any bright side in my future. My left hip is actually like a hip but my right side is completely smooth down to my knee. No roundness to my right hip. I really wish I never allowed Dr. Mai.
I had another surgeon repair my broken hip that left me with a significant leg length discrepancy andHe had nothing to offer to correct this other than exercise. I went to physical therapy 4 months with no improvement in leg length problem. My leg length discrepancy caused me constant pain and instability. Dr. Mai corrected this and my recovery was 100% POSITIVE. Highly recommend him.
Without hesitation, this retired trauma nurse, HIGHLY recommends Matt Mai, MD if you are having any issues with your hips. I had an anterior hip arthroplasty, April 27th and in less than a month I was on my way to pretty normal pre-surgery routine. I had a friend stay with me for safety for 3-4 days and was set up with home PT that began the day after my surgery and continued 3 times/week until my f/u appt 3 weeks later. I was able to take a shower day after my surgery, and it just continually got better from there. Minimal pain after first week if you do what you need to, PT, ICE, rest, pain meds as directed but you should be OK on ALEVE after 1st week or so if you do recommended activities, increasing each day. I was on my walker by day 3-4, and only used cane for balance for about a weeks..by 3rd week, I was able to walk my 60# goldendoodle about a mile each days and pretty quickly got back to our twice daily mile walks.
Had surgery on the 6th of May @the Destin Surgery Center. What a professional group of medical professionals. Surgery was quick basically pain free. The only bad thing I have to say is, I wish they were In Panama City. Would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody. Which I have actually done. Had rotor cuff surgery done in 2015 at Andrews nothing bad to say. They have a repeat customer. Looking forward to my surgery so I can be pain free and get some quality of life back. Cant go wrong.
Dr Mai is IMHO the absolute best hip specialist in NW Florida. I have had both hips replaced and when I started having pain and problems with my left hip it was Dr Mai that did the initial surgery to clean out the bursitis and lengthen my hip flexor tendon. Thats when he identified the root cause of my problems....the cup had been placed too vertical and it was causing me significant pain. The Dr Mai got out of the military and started working at the Andrews Institute. I got the VA to refer me to him through community care and I asked him to do my hip revision. It was a very difficult and invasive surgery, but now 10 months after my revision surgery and I am pain free in my hip. Thanks Doc! You are amazing and I hope I dont need to see you again. LOL
Had a good visit with Dr Mai yesterday. My son is having surgery on a torn labrum in his hip. Everything was explained thoroughly and we have a good understanding of what we are doing with a pretty good understanding of what is involved in the recovery process. Felt very confident in the visit.
Great Medical staff and administrative staff! They have always been available when I needed them. Dr Mai is amazing at what he does. He fixed my hip after years of pain and other doctors telling me that there was nothing wrong. Would definitely recommend him to friends and family.
When I saw Dr Mai my pain was so severe I was only getting one hour sleep a night on average. He diagnosed my exact issue and with compassion explained it in detail I understood. He mapped out a course of treatment with my options and eventually performed replacement surgery. My experience with Dr Mai and staff has made me whole again, something that at one time felt extremely hopelessI cannot say thank you enough I will not take a good nights sleep for granted ever again. Thank you Dr Mai.Carl Flowers
Awesome Dr! Took the time to adequately explain my issues, and show me on my scans where the problems were! Very proactive about getting me scheduled for surgery! And also very very patient with me after I had a mild panic attack at how big the needle was for the steroid injection 😬😬😬 like patience of Job that man had!
Dr. Mai was awesome. He repaired my left hip and completed a surgery that a previous surgeon could not do. Dr. Mai explains things in terms you can understand, is very thorough, and his team is very accessible during recovery. Dr. Mai was able to tell me exactly how recovery was going to go and he was spot on with every detail. If I had pain or pinching, he knew exactly why and how to fix it. Dr. Mai is the only surgeon I would trust to operate on my hip. Don’t make the same mistake I did and see him AFTER another surgeon fails on your hip surgery. Save yourself time and just go see Dr. Mai in the first place.
Dr. Mai and his staff at the Andrews Institute were nothing short of outstanding. I had a total hip replacement and after only 7 days I was walking without assistance from a walker or a cane. Being fairly young (34) for this type of procedure, I was concerned about how this would impact my active lifestyle but the team and Dr. Mai reassured me that I would be able to return to most, if not all the activities that I enjoy. Can’t thank them enough for the exceptional work that they have done for me. Would recommend to anyone.
My wife and I had our right hip done with Dr. Mai.I was fearful of the extensive recovery time that many of my friends had experienced. Dr Mais Anterior Procedure and recovery was unlike any that I had heard about up to this time. Within four days I was logging 6,000 plus steps effortlessly. The weeks I spent in pain before the surgery, melted into the back of my memory. I was pain free and completely mobile with in a week. I can not adequately describe what a relief it is to walk again with no pain! Thank you Dr Mai and Team!
My wife had both hips replaced by Dr. Mai and he and his staff were wonderful through both surgeries. He is very down to earth and caring with his patients and their families. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is in need of a hip replacement. Dont put it off. Call Dr. Mai at the next opportunity!
Dr. Mai was the 3rd hip doctor I was referred to because he is one of the few in the area who do hip arthroscopy surgeries. He was kind, informative, and worked quickly to get me taken care of. I had read that hip scope surgery could be a painful and difficult road post-surgery and I needed both hips fixed as sitting was becoming unbearable and I worried about being able to keep working. Needless to say we did my right hip, then left hip about 3 months later. The first went fantastic and the second went even better! The hardest part in this whole process was picking which hip to do first. Dr. Mai and his staff are top-notch and I highly recommend them.
Dr Mai has the blended gift, knowledge and talent of professionalism, compassion and truly caring! From the moment I arrived at Andrews Institute I was pleasantly welcomed and guided through the check in process! I appreciated Dr Mai’s directness in explaining what I needed to do to finally get my life back! Even though I’m not really looking forward to hip surgery, I am looking forward to working toward being pain free in my right hip!Thank you Dr Mai and your entire team! I will definitely recommend you and your team to friends! Also, thank you for your loyal service to our country!
Dr. Mai and staff were true superstars. The Andrews Inst Team reviewed my hip MRI and deemed it a priority over my impending spinal surgery. From review of MRI, a next day appointment with Dr. Mai, I underwent hip replacement surgery.I was a bit of a challenge; however I am 2-weeks out and am doing great. Many thanks to the team and especially Dr. Mai.
Dr. Mai is an amazing hip surgeon & military veteran!! I was living with a rare case of heterotypic ossification for 5 years from a previous surgery. It was so painful I couldn’t sleep on my right side wasn’t able to complete the 1.5 mile run for my PT test that’s required for my military career. And the worst part was the hip would swell so much it looked bigger than my left hip which left me feeling very self conscious. Also, anything that involved standing or walking for longer than 10 mins was very painful. I was limited in mobility as well as quality of life. It was to the point my lower back was starting to hurt. I was initially referred to UAB and was told by the head hip surgeon that he was not comfortable completing the revision surgery so I tried other surgeons and they either flat out refused care or didn’t accept my insurance Tricare. I was at the point where I was beginning to accept that I was going to live like that for the rest of my life, but then I ran into a coworker who referred me to Dr. Mai. It’s been six months since my revision surgery and I can actually sleep on that side without pain & I’m back to running. I’m so thankful for Dr.Mai, I can now live a more active lifestyle and chase my nephew around without pain. Dr. Mai was very thorough and explained what was going on and how he planned to fix it. He’s hands down the best hip surgeon within the River Region especially for military members. PT can put a lot of wear and tear on us. If your military with Tricare for insurance I highly recommend a lot of surgeons within the Montgomery area will not accept Tricare for hip surgeries. It will save you so much time it took 5 years of denials from other surgeons to find Dr.Mai.
Dr Mai was the worst experience with a Dr that I have ever had in my 46 years on this earth! His office staff were very kind and did their job. Zero complaints with his staff. Dr Mais PA was even ok and he did take the time to ask me a few questions etc... The problem I have is with Dr Mai. He was literally LITERALLY in the exam room for 7 seconds and did not ask me one single question. He came in and said so you talked to my PA and I assume you have hear all that you need. As he is looking at my xray he never asked me a question. He looked at the xray for 3 seconds and said AS HE IS WALKING OUT THE DOOR if you dont feel better in 3 months come back and see me. I was left in a room with the door open. Do I leave? Do I sit? ZERO guidance as to how we determine the extent of my injury. No treatment plan. No guidance on it being ok for me to play ball or be active. This Dr was AWFUL!!! RUN!!!!!! I wish there was a ZERO star because 1 star is too good for this terrible experience. Waste of time. Waste of money. Ill gladly discuss my dissatisfaction with Baptist Healthcare or his office if they see this.
Dr. Mai was very pleasant. He took time to sit down and thoroughly go over my MRI results so that could have a clear understanding of my issue and treatment options. He made me feel comfortable and allowed me to ask questions. I was able to get an injection in my hip during the very first appointment, which I hope will provide some short term relief for my chronic hip pain. When the time comes for surgery, I will definitely be having Dr. Mai do my procedure.
Dr Mai was very thorough and quick to diagnose my hip problem after a year of seeing other doctors and physical therapist. He explained in detail what he found in my imaging results that the radiologist did not report. He has a great personality and I’m very happy I went to see him.
Having hip replacement necessary. Live in PC but decided wanted to see true ortho specialist so traveled 2 1/2 hours to Gulf Breeze . Only had to wait a few minutes past scheduled appt time. Met with Dr. Mais Pa who was very courteous and professional. Answered all our questions and put us at ease. Then met with Dr. Mai who went over xray results and what to expect from surgery. Again a very reassuring experience. Follow up calls to office /staff were met with courtesy and professionalism .Appreciate experience with Andrews Institute , Dr. Mai /staff and Fla. Bone and Joint to date . Surgery scheduled for end of September , looking forward to event , rehab/recovery and hopefully pain free existence going forward !
I cannot express my gratitude for Dr. Mai, his staff and the Andrew’s Institute Surgery Center. I went through 3 years of misery, misdiagnoses, failed operations, PT, steroids, and injections all for nothing. Dr. Mai saw me and my imaging once and diagnosed my problem. He performed hip replacement surgery 3 weeks later. Im 3.5 months post op and my hip is perfect! I feel 10 years younger and can do things I haven’t been able to do in years. I’m jogging again ! I have had my life restored thanks to Dr. Mai and will forever be grateful.
I am so glad I was referred to Dr Mai. I had been having increasingly bad pain in my hip and leg. I had also been treated for years for lower back pain. After Dr Mai performed hip replacement surgery for me not only is my hip and leg pain relieved but also the back pain. His office made sure I knew exactly what I needed to know and expect for presurgery and post op care. Altogether a great experience and I am looking forward to being normal again
This office is so efficient! From my first phone call to my visit was only 3 days! As soon as I walked in the office I was sent for an x-ray. Within 5 minutes after my x-ray I was placed in a room and described my issue. Within 5 minutes a very nice PA came to ask a few questions and check my painful area. Then a few minutes later Dr.Mai came in. He was very thorough and helpful in setting up further testing. Boom! I was in and out in 30 minutes total!
I cant begin to describe the great experience, if you can say this about a medical condition and surgical procedure, I had as a patient of Dr. Matthew Mai. He took time to review my symptoms and xrays, discuss my options, and explain in detail what the next steps would be. My new hip was a great gift! The staff is always helpful and pleasant. During my follow up visits, the PA and Dr. Mai both spent time with me and answered my questions. I would highly recommend Dr. Mai if you have any issues with your hips.
Dr. Mai replaced my right hip in June. So when I was having left hip pain, I made an appointment to see him again. The appointment time wasnt but a week wait and the appointment time was perfect as well. Dr. Mai was kind as always, taking his time to ask those thousands of questions doctors ask. He examined me and immediately knew the problem. He explained everything about the condition clearly, gave me options for treatment, and made sure I was clear on the condition and treatment (even writing the name of it down so I could Google it if I forgot anything). I honestly feel like this is the best care of anyplace Ive had to visit. As far as I am concerned, Dr. Mai will always be my hero for giving me my life back after a long 14 year struggle.
Dr Mai did a great job. There was a very short wait time when I arrived at his office. He reviewed my case and knew exactly how to help me. He then took the time to explain what was wrong and developed a solid treatment plan that meets my needs.*Update-Dr Mai did a great job of explaining what the root problem of my pain was and the treatment options available to me. We agreed that surgery was the best option. He told me exactly what to expect and the best way to ensure recovery goes smoothly. Game day his staff took the time to brief my wife on the bast way to care for me. Dr. Mai took to the time to tell her about the procedure. I am now 7 weeks post surgery and I feel like I did 10 years ago. The the incisions are hardly noticeable and I am moving with much less pain.
Dr. Mai recently performed an anterior hip replacement for me. On top of his excellent surgical knowledge & skill, he is compassionate, listens to patients, & sincerely enjoys helping them return to active, pain-free lifestyles. His staff is also 5-star. Patients receive pre-surgery & post-operative detailed written guidelines. His receptionists & assistants are professional, return calls promptly & handle insurance, PT referrals & prescriptions efficiently. Office visits are streamlined with little wait. I rarely write reviews, but this one is well-deserved. Dr. Mai is one brilliant, confident surgeon who is also humble & empathetic!!!
Dr. Mai has changed my life! I went from taking pain meds. Trying IVT immune therapy to acupuncture. Now iam enjoying my best quality of life! Hiking in The National forest in the Gila mountains. In NewMexico seeing Beautiful cliff dwellings. Iam thrilled to be able to sleep thru the night. I Dont have to take multi level pain medicines. To help push thru the day any more.Thank you Dr. Mai! Your Amazing!!Top surgeon & personable!!!!
Warm, efficient, caring, listened, fast. From check-in to check-out 20 minutes, max. Included diagnosis and an injection in my hip: no pain now, after years of working through and living with the pain. All it was was bursitis, and I was worried it was my messed-up back! Thanks Dr Mai and staff!
Dr. Mai and the rest of the staff were very friendly and professional. I was in and out of his office in less than an hour. I have to get a hip replacement, and he was very thorough with explaining the process to me. I would highly recommend Dr. Mai if you ever need your hip replaced!
Would definitely recommend anyone with hip pain to visit Dr. Mai. I had an anterior hip replacement in which he specializes and everything from pre-op to surgery and recovery was smooth as silk. He and his staff are kind, efficient and expert at what they do. Thank you Dr. Mai!
I moved here in 2019 with both hips needing hip replacement. Interviewed a couple ortho docs and knew immediately during my consult with Dr Mai that he was the one for the job. He caringly listened to my story and history of ortho issues, did exam and xrays and together we made a plan. Had L THR 3-2020 and R THR 3-2021. Great staff at his office too, responsive to my calls, especially Thaddeus (thank you Thaddeus). I am thrilled with my new hips. I used a cane for 5 years, I no longer need that cane. I can stand up from sitting without using my hands to push up. I am off all pain meds even tylenol! I can stand on my feet a half hour or more without discomfort. Dr. Mai is a skilled surgeon who gave this 68yr old quality of life back. Thank you Dr. Mai.
If youre looking for the absolute best hip replacement, look no further. Dr. Mai and his team, Andrews Institute and Baptist Gulf Breeze Hospital are everything you hope to find. My hip replacement was a phenomenal experience that restored my mobility immediately. I was treated with the utmost compassion throughout, from first appointment to follow-up physical therapy. I give them my sincerest thanks and recommendation.
I was in-and-out of my scheduled appointment relatively quick and on time. Everyone was very pleasant, professional, and listened to my questions and concerns. It actually was a very refreshing experience from what Ive encountered in the past at other physicians offices.
I had been in pain for years, very limited mobility, and had been turned away by other surgeons when I was referred to Dr. Mai. At my first visit he looked at my images and scheduled me for surgery. Dr. Mai is easy to talk to and takes a real interest in his patients. The surgery results are better than I dreamed possible. No Pain!! The anterior method Dr. Mai uses means there are few movement restrictions and recovery is fast. I have my life back. Dr. Mai is amazing. I enthusiastically recommend Dr. Mai to anyone needing hip replacement surgery. In my opinion, you cant find better.
First: THANK YOU SO MUCH DR. MAI!!Two Anterior Total Hip Replacements four months apart! Dr. Matthew Mai and Tony Alexander PA-C performed my surgeries to perfection at Gulf Breeze Hospital. I am so grateful for Dr. Mai’s no- nonsense approach. His deliberate and confident manner made me very comfortable with having the surgeries. The office staff are all very helpful, and returned all my calls promptly- big THANK YOU’s to Thaddeus, Tori, and Lauren! You are great. I am truly grateful. I am able to have my life back.
I was referred to Dr. Mai for a second opinion after another doctor wanted to do surgery. Dr. Mai felt like surgery wasn’t necessary and prescribed injections and physical therapy. I was impressed with the check in process that was completed at a kiosk. I was also impressed that my follow up visit will be done through telemedicine, saving me 5 hours of driving. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The only reason I am not leaving 5 stars is that the MRI I brought with me was uploaded and labeled as a knee. Dr. Mai didn’t even see it until I was walking out the door and he said that they normally wait to do an MRI until surgery. I asked if their was a problem with the MRI I brought, and he said it is a knee MRI. He did pull it up as I was leaving and was able to see the torn gluteus medius I was there for the second opinion on. I had mentioned to Dr. Sexton that I was there for a second opinion on the tear. If I had my visit to do over, I would have confirmed he had seen my MRI. Having said all that, if I get to the point I eventually need surgery, I have complete confidence in Dr. Mai and the clinic at Gulf Breeze.
Dr. Mai and his staff are amazing, caring professionals. I had a complete Hip replacement in Dec. 2020 and its April 2021 and I have almost no pain. The only pain is just the healing pain that comes with surgery and its almost gone now. I feel like a new person. Thank you Dr. Mai!
This is a too notch group of physicians & medical professionals. Andrews Institute has a stellar reputation and it’s easy to see why. The no nonsense approach to medicine is refreshing. From start to finish I have had five star quality treatment especially from Lauren (phones) and Thaddeus the wonderful clinician. Not to be forgotten is the incredibly talented & entertaining Dr Mai! Mad skills yo!⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Dr. Mai was the only Dr. that understood what was causing my pain from a hip replacement I had in 2012 in Virginia. Some surgeons wanted to redo the entire hip replacement or to sever the iliopsoas tendon. Dr. Mai preformed a minimally invasive iliopsoas release, cleared out the scar tissue and I am pain free. I am so grateful to have found him.
I contacted Dr. Mai’s office for an appointment to l have my left hip looked at. My right hip was replaced in July 2019 by Dr. Mai. Left hip has become painful and I needed to know if it had started to deteriorate. My appointment was scheduled within two weeks, which was amazing.Thankfully, outcome of visit is I’m not in need of surgery at this time. Dr. Mai gave me an injection into the hip joint and within an hour, I knew it was working as my pain was nearly gone.
11years of hip pain is about to be over. Dr Mai is a fantastic physician and surgeon. Im beyond grateful Dr Mai has taken me on as hes patient. He is highly sought after and is a trail blazer in his field...being one of very few doctors to perform arthroscopic surgery on the hips. Since September, we have gone through series of injections and he is always on time and his staff is cheerful and helpful. I have been under long time care in NY. Dr Mai quickly found areas in need of treatment that other completely doctors missed .He too pointed me into the right direction for referrals. Yesterday I had my four areas in my hip repaired and today, as expected, sore and walker challenged. It will pass. Surgery ran a bit late but I was prepared for that ,as not every case can go on time. Dr Mai himself kept me abreast of the time and thats a rarity for a physician to do. Dr Mais bedside manner is more than appropiate he is a positive and upbeat person with a compassionate heart. Dont walk but run ( if you can) to Dr. Mais care. Like me you will be more than satisfied. Bless you Dr Mai.
I would like to personally thank Dr. Mai and his team for such INCREDIBLE and COMPASSIONATE care. If I could give them a million stars I would. For years, I have suffered with excruciating and debilitating hip pain. Every doctor I have reported to has blown me off and has not taken the initiative to investigate my complaints. However, Dr. Mai knew exactly what I had, what needed to be done and BELIEVED ME! As someone who suffers with a chronic illness, I cannot thank him enough for believing me. Dr. Mais passion for his work and patients is absolutely amazing. My surgery was successful, my scars are minimal and I was back to work in no time....3 weeks post op and my hip feels SO much better already.Dr. Mai has drastically improved the quality of my life, and that is something I cannot thank him enough for.
Had my left hip replaced by Dr Mai recently. I would give him 10 stars if I cld. I highly recommend this Dr. He answered all of my questions leading up to my surgery. He also managed to lengthen my leg to damn near perfect with my non operative leg. This was a huge deal for me as I used to have to wear a lift on all of my shoes a little over an inch and a half. As you can imagine that caused major back problems. If you need hip surgery this is the doctor to use can’t thank him enough 👍👍
My daughter is a 16 yo female soccer player and we had a consult with Dr. Mai for an chronic hip condition 4-5 weeks ago. Dr. Mai was able to diagnose her within a few minutes and gave us our options for correcting her injury. He was very thorough and knowledgeable and spent time explaining her condition and her diagnosis and gave us confidence that he would be able to correct her permanently. We were very pleased with our visit! Thank you Dr. Mai and your staff!
I had both my hips replaced in the last 3 months. After 9 months of pain, canes, and walkers I am now doing great. I would highly recommend Dr Mai to anyone. His staff was great about helping with any questions or concerns I had before and after surgery. If there was a 10 star rating I would have chosen that without hesitation.
Dr. Mai is a really great doctor. He cares about his patients and is incredibly personable. Pair that with his skill as a orthopedic hip specialist and you have a great doctor. I recommend him to everyone I know with a complex hip issue. His staff is also great at responding to questions and concerns.
Dr. Mai is a good listener and went to work to determine the cause of my problems. He had prior tests I had done readily available and after a quick, but thorough physical exam discussed my situation in laymans terms. He recommended stretching exercises and they have helped my discomfort significantly. I would definitely seek his expertise in the future. Office staff was thoroughly professional and I spent very little time waiting.
Went to see Dr Mai in April 2020 with weakness and decreased mobility in my Left leg which was not helped by rehab. (I had a total left hip done in November 2016). My goal was to gain more strength and increase mobility in the leg. I could not do a leg left more then an inch off the ground.Dr Mai went in and lengthened the tendon and cleaned up around the joint The results were fantastic. I’m no longer tripping and falling, I can lift my leg all the way up, and I’ve been hiking mountains all summer out in New Mexico. Thank you Dr Mai
After 5 years of dealing with chronic hip pain I couldn’t take the pain and lack of mobility any longer. As a self- employed real estate appraiser, the though of not working for several weeks after the surgery was the reason I had put off getting the procedure done. Much to my surprise Dr. Mai advised he could to the surgery on an out- patient basis, which I replied, “let’s do this”! My surgery was scheduled for Monday at 7:00 am and I was home by noon (which includes a 45- minute drive home). The following day I was up and walking around with the aid of a walker. By day two I was walking unassisted and taking no pain medication. I went back to work on Friday! After my three- month check-up Dr. Mai gave me a clean bill of health to do whatever I wanted, so the following day I ran 2 miles. If you are having hip issues, I highly recommend Dr. Matt Mai as I have been very pleased with all aspects of my experience with both Dr. Mai and the Andrews Sports Medicine facility in Gulf Breeze. Thirty years of VA run around finally ended when I visited Dr. Mai! Now, less than a month after visiting Dr. Mai, Im already feeling better and being treated for the age old military injury that the VA continues to ignore. Im blessed to have found him and his friendly and professional staff. I highly recommend Dr. Mai for he is truly a class act.
I have been going to Dr. Mais office for some time now. I am 77 yrs of age and have abused my body in my previous profession as a Border Patrol Agent and as Federal Criminal investigator. In those days I abused my body chasing illegal personnel through plowed fields at night, chasing drug dealers through the countryside in the desert areas of Laredo Tx with creeks, rivers, canyons and all the picturesque scenery of the wild country. I would fall and continue the chase. Now years later my body has responded to worn out ligaments, joints and bones. Add 23 yrs of military service. I thank Doctor Mai for bringing my body back to a normal life.
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience from the office, to surgery, and recovery than I had with Dr. Mai and staff.Had I know it could be this easy to resolve the pain I would have had the surgery sooner. I truly believe my recovery is all due to Dr. Mai and his team!!
I never expected the way of healing. This is only the next morning, yes it is hurting a little but far less than than before. I can do a giddy up using the Walker, positioning myself is awkward when doing the rest position. I would do it anytime. Thankyou Dr. Mai and your team. Phil Hemmings. One satisfied customer...

2022-01-20Let me first say that I recommend Dr Mai for a hip replacement without hesitation. I had multiple health care professionals recommend Dr Mai to me – as the “THE Hip Guy” at the Andrews Institute. I found him to be personable, professional and very knowledgeable - addressing all questions that my wife and I had. I had a hip replacement 10 years ago, and he was very careful to explain to me the differences in that procedure and what he was going to do. The surgery and recovery went just as he explained, and I will tell you that it was MUCH easier than my first hip replacement. It was done out-patient, and I was home by noon (and I was not his first surgery that day). I used a walker for only a day, and a cane for 4 days (only in case I lost balance). Within a week, I was walking 2 miles. I will also say that his staff is excellent, being very responsive when I asked to reschedule my surgery, and with my questions related to COVID vaccinations. I have already recommended Dr Mai to multiple people, and would have him operate on any of my family without concern.

2022-08-12Dr. Mai is a terrific surgeon. I recently had hip replacement surgery and am amazed at how much better I feel. It has only been a little over two weeks and I am getting around so much better than before. Everyone in his office is very nice and the same for the hospital. It was great to me that I was able to go home on the same day!

2022-06-03I love this guy !! My entire hip replacement experience could not have been any better and went exactly as he explained it would. My only regret is that I didnt do it sooner. After researching anterior approach and hearing other peoples stories, I was prepared to travel wherever necessary to find someone with his level of expertise in this type of surgery and was ecstatic when I found him right here at Andrews Institute. Its been a wonderful experience with a quicker recovery than I ever imagined. I love that he looks like a tackle for the Cowboys but is a skilled surgeon....great combo.

2022-06-01Dr. Matthew Mai and his team are wonderful. Dr. Mai performed a very unusual and complicated hip surgery. I admired his positivity and kindness from my first appointment with him. He thoroughly explained the results of my MRI and what needed to be done to relieve my pain. He should teach a master class in bedside manner! His entire team remained cheerful and positive during a very frightening time for me. I am very grateful for his amazing skills as a surgeon, and for his ability to move me throughout the processes of surgery and recovery.

Dr Mai explained what to expect, to include PT, continued healing to overall 100%. I am very pleased with Dr Mai and will recommend him to my connections. Thank you very much

2022-07-26This was my first appointment with Dr Mai and both my husband and I were very satisfied with what Dr Mai did for me. My hip area is still a little bit soar and numb but I am very pleased with Dr Mai. 😁Now that it has been a week since I have been to Dr Mais office July 26th, my hip is doing really well now. The exercises are also helping with my hip. I was really surprised with what he did and the Steroid injection. That was all that he did the injection, I was thinking that I would have to have another surgery but I dont and I am very pleased with that!

2022-04-13Actual visit with Dr Mai and his nurse were great. Checking in process was great. Only issue I experienced was not being informed upon check in that there would be a delay. After 45 min I inquired and felt as if I was interrupting snack time. As a former Clinic Manager, I would expect my staff to communicate to all patients. Overall was happy with visit.
