This company is truly unethical and fraudulent. My community has been robbed for nearly 15 years. Our HOA dues are completely ridiculous considering nothing is ever properly maintained. Id highly discourage living in any community they run. They are corrupt and thieves!
This company is very unresponsive to the needs of the community. The condition in which our community has been cared for is deplorable. In regards to the fees of the HOA they do not equate to non working gates for months on end, non useable pools, sub par landscaping, non working sprinkler systems and the lists go on and on and on.....
I stayed with a relative who owns a home in a community run by Metro. The horror stories he has told me about the way the company operates are unbelievable. I have seen the broken entrance gate and the dead landscaping first hand. Many issues are ignored and go unaddressed. They are not a good company!
This group cannot be trusted. Their HOAs leave no room for owner representation so they do what they want without consequence. They practice illegal actions in policy while stealing money from our reserve funds. Hard to say how many lawsuits are currently pending against them.
Metro Development Group builds the most incredible subdivisions in the Tampa Bay Area. I just told my wife last week that I wished we lived in one of these mega cool neighborhoods. They have incredible pools with big clubhouses, childrens areas, some have basketball, some of great fitness paths.I do not know one developer who provides the amenities that this company does. Look them up!
Original review: I do like our home and our neighborhood but I am very disappointed in the internet service that Metro Places provides through our HOA fees. We have no other option for internet in here and the internet has gone out almost every week since we moved in about a month and a half ago. The outage is community wide and it is out for about 24 hours at a time. Both my husband and I work from home and it is putting a lot of stress on us when we are unable to work or have to scramble to find a different location to work from. To make matters worse, I’ve contacted both the HOA and Spectrum (the internet service provider) many times and neither one of them has any idea why the internet keeps going out or what will be done to fix it. Neither party is very apologetic about it either. It is upsetting because my husband and I were sold on our community due to the “ultra-fi” internet we were promised and so far it has been nothing but problems. I will revise my review to 5 stars if and when this problem is addressed and resolved.EDIT (REVISED TO 5 STARS): It has now been several months since my review and we have not had anymore internet outages. I am very happy with our home and our lagoon community. I am hopeful that we will not have anymore internet issues.
A very unethical, money hungry group. I had thought they just stole from my community. I was wrong, they steal money meant for small businesses struggling during this pandemic. They should be investigated! From their website Our portfolio includes more than 40,000 developed lots across more than 70 communities, all valued in excess of $2 billion yet they were approved for PPP loan ranging from $350k-$1M. Disgusting!!A quick google search will reveal their PPP loan.
From my sons experience living in one of their developments, has been absolutely the worst company by far. I have seen first hand how poorly ran and they are ripping the home owners off like you would not believe. This company needs to be in investigated and criminal charges applied. Do not do business with these people. They are very dishonest and a disgrace.
My brother lives in a community that is managed by this development and the last 6 months have been nothing short of a nightmare. They treat people unfairly and cross the line just to make money. I don’t trust them and I would never want to live anywhere that has anything to do with this development. They steal and manipulate and can’t even fix or own up to when they’re wrong. Stay far away.

2021-08-08UPDATE: Metro sold our neighborhood to another developer when we started pressuring them to return the money they took from our HOA reserves that their own audit shows they owe us. We’ve had to come together as a community to get a lawyer and try to force them to pay the tens of thousand of dollars their own audit admits they owe us. So, it feels like they sold our neighborhood when they realized they could not steal from us anymore. As a resident of a Metro property for the past 6 months, I thought the property looked nice, but the more I live here, the more concerned I am by Metros neglect. The big undeveloped parts of the neighborhood are overgrown and host mosquitoes and invasive plant species, the dog bags regularly run out, there is little parking, building and fire alarms go off for days and even weeks at a time. There is also no say in how much the internet costs or if homeowners can build community assets to increase property value because METRO OWNS THE HOA and it will not give it to the actual homeowners. They have owned the HOA for over a decade and they just passed an amendment saying they will keep power for another 5 years. HOA meetings are not open to actual homeowners. Most importantly, the HOA fees keep rising and the budget for emergency and maintenance projects keep shrinking. If we had a major storm come through, Metro would not have the funds in the HOA to repair roofs. This is the HOA s responsibility to keep enough funding to repair the exterior of buildings. Since the HOA IS METRO, then why isnt Metro keeping enough in reserve? Where are our ever-rising HOA fees going???

2020-08-26I have been a homeowner of a metro property since 2007. While I had high hopes for the community at the time, Metro has acted unfairly and even corruptly in keeping homeowners out of the HOA and ANY decision making on how the HOA fees are spent. I recently looked at the public financials for our community with an accountant and there is a LOT of money from HOA fees that arent present. There is no way to find out exactly how our money is being spent. Metro tried to build on land they have not yet developed with another builder for a different zoning project without the homeowners prior knowledge or permission - because they have and will not let go of complete power of the HOA, even after 10 years. I understand that that would give them power over the HOA in perpetuity.Furthermore, half of the community that was scheduled to be built never got built. There are empty, overgrown lots that host clouds of MOSQUITOES due to untended, standing water. Community members had to block off one of the roads because people were going way back there and dumping trash, ect. The pool was the only amenity built. Its nice to have, but its often closed for maintenance that can take weeks. While Metro has done some maintenance, such as mowing grassy areas and pressure washing roofs, they have also passed on the expense of a fee from the city for things the HOA (METRO) is responsible for to the homeowners, who had no power to take care of it. There is little parking in the area for guests. The gates will not respond to some clickers. There is no say in landscaping. How is this all legal?

2021-05-20I bought a townhome in a community owned by Metro at the first of this year. The units themselves are lovely and have been upgraded by previous owners in a prime on the water location. This could be a great, classy community if it werent for Metro. Metro has not only committed breach of the bylaws by misappropriation of funds and actual ILLEGAL theft of funds in the HOA account, they have refused to turn over control of the HOA to homeowners; they have not developed the rest of the lots in the development nor the common areas; they have not maintained common areas properly or made necessary repairs thereby defaulting on contractual obligations. You would think in the hot Tampa real estate market, they would be anxious to finish developing the units and the waterfront and be anxious to have a stellar community.Live Oak trees have been planted in front of the units at an unsafe distance from the structures. Sidewalks and Driveways are lifting. Homeowners are having issues with plumbing and foundation damage. These trees will have to be removed.Irrigation systems for all landscaping is non operational. Our grass and plants are dying. The landscape is tired and an eyesore. Many owners are updating landscaping in front of their units at their own expense. Landscaping at the front entry is aged and dying, irrigation not working, landscape lighting not working.Parking for guests is ridiculous. There are not enough guest spaces. The pool is frequently dirty, the palm trees around the pool have died. This should be a stellar community that we and Metro should be proud of. Instead, it is lackluster in appearance at best. Metro has failed in its contractual obligations with its illegal practices. We homeowners demand justice.

2020-08-26I have a close friend who moved into a metro community in Tampa. I loved the location, but upon hearing what metro is doing to the homeowners in his community, I would never consider doing business with them. It is true they refuse to allow homeowners on the board, and metro takes advantage of the homeowners by forcing them to pay for Metro’s lots that it still owns. Metro then “loans” the association money under terms of a separate contract that the homeowners have never been allowed to even review when they can’t afford to fund Metro’s lots. As a result, front gates are inoperable for months, the pool is shut down often, the landscape is unacceptable. I would be ashamed to call myself a metro employee.

2020-08-24I wish there was a negative rating-(Google can you please add negative ratings).I too live in the community mis- managed and ripped off by Metro Development Group and their affiliates. As per Metros appointed Board and attorney, the Florida State Laws do not apply to them. They have violated/broken the laws on many occasion and continue to do so with utter disdain. They have controlled the board since 2007/2008 with not one single homeowner as a representative on the Board. They amend the document controlling the board of HOA funded by resident without the permission or knowledge in many cases of the residents. They do not contribute to HOA dues- as laws do not apply to them (as per Metro) and used the funds from Reserve to manage the operating costs. They use retaliatory techniques for any complains.

2020-08-25HOA is supposed to mean Home Owners Association. For homeowners, by homeowners. But in our development, Metro doesnt want there to be any homeowners involved in the Association. They are constantly doing illegal things to silence homeowners, such as adding amendments allowing them to illegally maintain control over our association. They also have stolen money from our reserves to bolster their coffers. And homeowners get nothing in the way of benefits for their monthly dues. Shoddy security and landscaping, as well as a lack of a community insurance policy, are all part of their ways. Stay far, far away from any community where you have to pay any extra money to Metro to live.

2020-09-21I currently live in a Metro HOA (development controlled) community in the Tampa Bay area. I would like to say Metro is the most inconsiderate business group I have ever encountered as it pertains to our HOA.Our community homeowners pay heafty HOA fees each month and in return we dont receive the necessary repairs and upgrades required to keep our community safe and functioning properly. Not only does this lack of attention and disrespect attract undesirable situations into our area, it also attributes to keeping our home values depressed. Metro Development is not a caring compassionate group of people. They only have their best interest at heart and the mismanagement of our hard earned HOA fees.

2020-08-26It is unethical what Metro is doing to the homeowners in our community. They force us to fund the lots that they own and they won’t allow any homeowner on our own board— it is comprised of only Metro employees. They take our money every month and we get little to no value from it in our community. They won’t properly maintain the properties and they allow repairs to go unaddressed for months at a time. Do not buy from them!

2020-08-19If I could give Metro Development Group a score of negative 5, I would. I live in a development where this developer is still in control. It has been a nightmare from day one. They are unresponsive, we do not get value for our HOA fees, there have been questionable financial dealings, lack of homeowners representation or notification on the HOA board, long since the time it should have been turned over to the Homeowners.. I could go on and on. PLEASE RUN if you see a community where you are thinking of buying that is controlled by Metro!!!! Just buy somewhere else and save yourself a lot of heartache.

2020-08-25Any effort by Metro to quell the voices of those who have posted negative reviews has not gone unnoticed (Reputation Defender wont save you). What also hasnt gone unnoticed is the quelling of voices of homeowners within properties they own, as they arent allowed to participate in making any decisions. What also hasnt gone unnoticed is the missing money from our reserve fund. What also hasnt gone unnoticed is the our HOA dues get us nothing but disappointment with terrible landscaping, pool maintenance and security. Its only a matter of time before our voices will be heard, and our money returned. Dont go near this group. Bunch of incompetent thieves.
